Mrs. MaryLou Sabedra-Cuello, Vice-President
I've lived in Guadalupe all my life and will continue to live here. I'm very proud of being a citizen of Guadalupe.
I have been retired for 10 years; I worked for the Santa Barbara County Schools for 3 years and worked for the Guadalupe School District for 33 years.
I started as a Bilingual Teaching Assistant with the County under the Title VII Program for 3 years. This was the first time Bilingual Education was ever presented in the District. I was then employed by the GUSD as a TA for 6 years. I then had the opportunity to start working as an Administrative Assistant and over the years I've had the privilege to work with 8 different Curriculum Directors. Throughout the years I have seen the District go through many, many changes.
I promoted from the Guadalupe School District and graduated from Santa Maria High School. My graduating class was the last class to graduate from Santa Maria High School. The following year Guadalupe students attended Righetti High School. As my children grew older, I attended Hancock. I took classes that helped me as a TA and as an Administrative Assistant.
I have been married to Agustin for 20 years. I have 2 wonderful grown kids with families of their own. My son Jim lives in Moraga and has 2 sons. My daughter Doreen lives in Guadalupe and has 2 sons and 2 daughters. I have one grandson in Kindergarten and one granddaughter in 3rd grade. My family is a very important part of my life. I love animals. I have 7 doves in an aviary that my husband built for them. I also, adopted 4 feral cats (nurtured of course), 2 parakeets and 1 very spoiled Toy Poodle (Tangles). I love working in the garden (this is very stress free and therapeutic). I also enjoy taking long walks early in the morning.
Being a Board Member has been very rewarding. As I have mentioned I have been involved in education for 30 years; I always stress to my children and grandkids that an education is very important. Being on the Board is my way to continue helping children (our future). I feel I have come full circle in the District, as a result, I think I understand the obstacles and the concerns teachers and parents have. I enjoy the challenges being on the Board has and look forward to the great future our District has.
As I have always felt “Guadalupe is a sleeping giant getting ready to wakeup and we as the Guadalupe School District need to have our students ready for that challenge.”
